With reference to the final paragraph of

my confidential despatch of the 16th of June, 1931,

I have the honour to inform you that I have,

provisionally and subject to His Majesty's pleasure,

appointed Mr. Chau Tsun Nin to be an Unofficial

Member of the Legislative Council in succession to

Sir Shouson Chow whose second term of office expires on

the 1st of December, 1931.

2. Mr. Chau who was educated at Queen's College

Oxford is a Barrister of the Middle Temple. He was

called to the Bar on the 17th of November, 1914, and

was admitted to practice in Hong Kong on the 24th of January, 1916. He has not however practised as a Barrister for some years, having been fully occupied

in business, chiefly in connection with Insurance and Shipping. He was appointed a Justice of the Peace

on the 23rd of November, 1923, and has been a member

of the Sanitary Board since March, 1929. In addition

he has served on various occasions on the District
